چکیده

This article studies equilibrium singular configurations of gels and addresses open questions concerning gel energetics. We model a as an incompressible, immiscible saturated mixture solid polymer solvent that sustain chemical interactions at the molecular level. assume energy consists elastic its network plus Flory-Huggins mixing. The latter involves entropic energies individual components interaction between solvent, with temperature dependent Flory parameter, $\chi $ , encoding properties solvent. In particular, good promoting mixing regime, is found below threshold value =0.5$ whereas phase separating regime develops above critical value. show cavities singularities develop in regime. find two main classes singularities: (i) drying out water possibly exiting domain through boundary, leaving behind core exposed centre gel; (ii) cavitation, response to traction on boundary or some form negative pressure, cavity can be either void flooded by straightforward unified mathematical approach treat all such based construction appropriate test functions, inspired particular states uniform swelling compression. last topic statistical mechanics rooted controversy research community, providing experimental analytic study support phantom versus affine one.

Rings of Singularities

This paper is a slightly revised version of an introduction into singularity theory corresponding to a series of lectures given at the ``Advanced School and Conference on homological and geometrical methods in representation theory'' at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Miramare - Trieste, Italy, 11-29 January 2010. We show how to associate to a triple of posit...

Recent Observations on Cavitation and Cavitation Noise

This paper is primarily concerned with the acoustics of traveling bubble cavitation around foils or headforms. We begin with observations of individual bubbles and the acoustic signals they emit, our purpose being to identify areas of research which would enhance our tlriderstaridirig of the history of individual bubbles. Then we present some riumerical integrations of the Rayleigh/Plesset equa...

Scaling of Cavitation Erosion Progression with Cavitation Intensity and Cavitation Source

A simple mathematical expression is presented to describe cavitation mean depth of erosion versus time for cavitating jets and ultrasonic cavitation. Following normalization with a characteristic time, t*, which occurs at 75% of the time of maximum rate of erosion, and a corresponding material characteristic mean erosion depth, h*, the normalized erosion depth is related to the normalized time ...

Backflow Vortex Cavitation and Its Effects on Cavitation Instabilities

Cavitation instabilities in turbo-machinery such as cavitation surge and rotating cavitation are usually explained by the quasi-steady characteristics of cavitation, mass flow gain factor and cavitation compliance. However, there are certain cases when it is required to take account of unsteady characteristics. As an example of such cases, cavitation surge in industrial centrifugal pump caused ...
